Anyone who has visited spraci over the last 15 years has probably seen various data feed and syndication tools. This was always seen here as the start of something bigger.
... the future is not one site, but many!
Full federation (ie multi-way - not centralised around any one site) for public events listings is something I really need to get going here (something I've wanted to get happening for many years, well before I knew about Friendica or even Diaspora ... and years before i even heard about Facebook or even Myspace ...
but Facebook is turning this desire into an URGENT NEED. - I was for years trying to encourage people doing events to use hCalendar markup on their own sites and submit their feeds to events sites but most of those people of course did not understand what I was talking about!) - and increasingly they don't even have their own sites and just make a FB page --- which is a worry in itself!

Less and less people are going out to anything these days because they are not hearing about public events as promoters increasingly treat FB as some kind of gig guide .. which it is NOT and does not claim to be and increasingly don't post their events anywhere else. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM - not just for events and gigguide sites but for anyone looking for an interesting event to go to!
Friendica has given me renewed hope of being able to do something about this but I need to work out a good way to do this that allows the most freedom of choice for all users and sites involved.
I'm not expecting anyone to to build this for me and if I get something together here for such events listings federation in Friendica I will happily share any useful code, but would love some ideas, etc about good ways to approach this!
