Trump is a moron, of course, but having The National Guard down here on Border Patrol could have positive consequences. The Border Patrol is astonishingly corrupt, for starters. Adding a bunch of Bumpkin Weekend Warrior dipshits probably won't help much. And the whole Border Issue is hypocrisy and corruption top to bottom. People in the rest of the country don't know what is going on. What the hypocrites want is effectively slavery. They want to be able to import foreign workers, have them work in America, but have them be subject to no law whatsoever.
They won't be Mexican citizens working in the US. They won't be Americans. They won't have any legal status at all. They are ghost people. And these hypocrites are largely happy with the current situation. They smuggle people in (often under the knowing gaze of the so-called "Border Patrol"), move them into living situations that are dormitory or barracks like. And they work them relentlessly. It's not just agricultural work. It's all sorts of illegal gray-market work. Anything you can imagine, really. No Unions. No Legal Protection. Nothing. They are wholly at the mercy of their "employers."
But really, it is para-legalized slavery. In fact, slavery is a sort of official, recognized legal status. A slave has the status of being property. Trans-border laborers live in a gray area of no recognized legal status.
They have no legal recourse for any sort of exploitation. It's not enough that they are slaves, they must be willing participants
in their own exploitation. And they must bear all of the costs
when something goes wrong.
I believe that the idiot Trump wants to make the current situation a legally recognized "Guest Worker" program. He has already demonstrated his love of slave labor in his own businesses. "Guest Worker" programs, which are legalized slavery under a different name, have the added advantage of decimating the prospects of the local working population. No job is safe with this piece of the puzzle in place. It won't just be "worker's encampments" filled with field workers. Soon there will be "Guest Plazas" filled with Indian computer programmers, Chinese Architects, even medical personnel. You name it. They will create an entire "Guest" economy.
