create safe harbours

Letting people drown in the Mediterranean Sea to further seal off Europe and win political points is unbearable and against any humanitarian values. Migration is and has always been part of our society! Instead of closing borders, we need a Europe that is open, cities that show solidarity and harbours that are safe.
SEEBRÜCKE is an international movement, supported by several civil society alliances and people. We declare our solidarity with people who are forced to flee their homes. From German and European policy makers, we demand the establishment of safe routes for refugees, to stop the criminalisation of sea rescue and to receive them in a humane way whilst respecting their rights.

Sydney to Hobart Yacht Tracker! - you'll have to be quick it's nearly over!
a 'thriller in slow motion' maybe not so quick after all.
other splishyplashy history:
~~~~ The Winged Keel ~~~~~ there was talk of the keel being conceived/invented/made by a Dutch designer but pfff, sore loserville. We won :) Ned's hat and the winged keel. Ozzie as all get go. As is Bradman's bat from another laboriously slow sport we watch on Boxing Day (if we're not watching the boats)
One of the many manifestations of our leader said we have to ** stop the boats**. Some suggest that's a few hundred years too late and he may have said "coats" or "goats". Clearly, doesn't apply to the yachties wot wot.
and that's all i have on #sailing-ships
A common (neo)pagan tale is that of the battle between the Holly King and the Oak King. They are brothers who complete each other: the Oak King represents light and life, and rules in summer, a time for action. The Holly King represents darkness and death, and rules in winter, a time for introspection. They fight for supremacy twice a year. At the winter solstice, when it is darkest and the Holly King is at the height of his power, the Oak King defeats him in battle and takes his place to rule as light and warmth grow. At the summer solstice, when the sun is at its peak and the Oak King is at the height of his power, the Holly King returns and defeats him to take his place.
Someone recently suggested (in an online discussion forum) that rather than brothers fighting, this story could be about lovers, and older man and a younger man, who change places over the seasons. I loved this idea and decided to write it up for #Yule; the result is below. If men loving each other makes you uncomfortable, then don... Show more...
olives
i have an olive tree. that would be exciting -_- hmm Olive Oyl? painful person. not even real. Olive so that others may prosper? not punny enough. Olivetti! now we're talking! But not talking on-theme. Right. So, olives...with an s. more than one.
this is just like that time at bandcamp when i was asked what my favourite prayer was. Being new to the sect, i hadnae a clue - i was there for the yoks and the booklearnin'. People have favourite prayers? "Ooooh thankyouthankyouthankyou. i promise i'll be good from now on. ish" was my only one..my fragile child mind flashed to a print at my grandmother's of a nun holding flowers with leaves shaped like #olives. "The Prayer to Saint Bernadette!" i enthusiastically replied, stunning all around me with my wisdom and great knowledge of the holy texts.
Years later i found out she's Saint Therese and the olives are the leaves of the briar. Also that i've probably been short-sighted for quite a long time.
Mum was always taking us to look at the stars. We were great astronomers, us kids! We were looking for rockets the night he went away. Guess i'm still looking for a Rocket, sis.
Si, it's #birds today. Here's a story I wrote.
Corvus
From the roof of St Cuthbert’s a large stone raven, Corvus, overlooked the main courtyard. An unusual choice, but St Cuth had a long history of corvidae, with centuries-old rookeries in the rear garden’s trees. What better place for her research? There were countless studies of corvidae intelligence, but Adrienne’s focus on interspecies communication was new. No one believed magpies and crows spoke to each other, and she had been accused of obsession with these birds.
She sat on the hill overlooking St Cuthbert’s, telescopically spying on the stone raven. The statue was a bird magnet. Jackdaws and crows mingled in front of it, surprisingly friendly towards each other. A magpie arrived with something shiny in its beak and dropped it under the statue. Adrienne was puzzled, but her view was blocked. She had to get up there.
Dawn saw her climbing the old building with the help of a drainpipe... Show more...
Play with us !
Do you want to create a colorful and crazy end-of-the-year calendar with us?
We (@nadloriot, @Jakobu, @BeatclubFC, @Harry Göhde and me) have come up with a term for every day of December and you can do whatever you want with it.
Write something, or paint, write down a story or a poem, photograph or edit with gimp (etc), write it on the wall, make music out of it, make a gif ...
Be creative - come up with something.
If you want, you can post something to every day or only 1-2 terms. You are free to use a different technique every day, or in the same style
have fun - play around
Important: Use only the term for the day and tag with
#End-of-18-Calendar
#Dia-D-Vent-18
& the tag of the day (for example for the first of december : #Dia-D-Vent-1-18 #bewitch)
Follow the tags and share the post ;-) (and feel free, to translate in other languages if you want to)
.... you can start now ;-)
