Sanders (I -VT) wants to attract black voters

In his speech, Sanders recalled his efforts to desegregate housing as a student at the University of Chicago in the 1960s and read a list of names of young black men killed in police shootings, including Laquan McDonald, whose death at the hands of a Chicago police officer in 2014 sparked outrage and protests across the city.

“We have got to look at candidates not by the color of their skin, not by their sexual orientation or gender and not by their age,” he told Vermont Public Radio. “I think we have got to try to move us toward a nondiscriminatory society that looks at people based on their abilities, based on what they stand for.”

He acknowledged Georgia Democratic Rep. John Lewis, who was brutalized and almost died during the protest, and praised the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the African-American civil rights activist whom Sanders supported for president in 1988.

On the conservative «Criminal Justice Reform»

“You look at Mississippi, a rock-ribbed, total conservative former jailer is now the governor. Governor Bryan cut the prison population and crime at the same time. [Governor Nathan] Deal in Georgia cut the prison population and crime at the same time. . . . What you’re seeing now is Republican governors being tough on the dollars. Tough on crime and shrinking the prison population.”

In addition to progressive opposition to what was viewed as insufficient reform, a number of conservative lawmakers, led by Senator Tom Cotton (R., Ark.), argued that the bill’s potential benefits were outweighed by the possibility that it would make certain classes of violent offenders eligible for early release, which, they predicted, would result in an increased crime rate.

CNN has hired Sarah Isgur in terms of appearing less biased

Isgur’s LinkedIn page indicates she has no journalism experience. She has, however, worked for a variety of right-wing organizations and campaigns, including the Carly Fiorina and Mitt Romney presidential bids, the Republican National Committee, and a Ted Cruz US Senate campaign.

The Washington Post reported that during an early 2017 Oval Office meeting with President Donald Drumpf, Isgur — who was critical of Drumpf during the 2016 campaign — “kowtowed to Drumpf” and pledged loyalty to his agenda as a condition of getting the job as Sessions’ spokesperson.

While the network hasn’t commented on its reasons for bringing Isgur aboard, it stands to reason that CNN sees hiring a conservative as a way to push back on the perception that it’s biased against Drumpf. Unsurprisingly, news of her hire was applauded by at least one prominent right-wing voice.

Minn. Sen. Amy Klobuchar accused of mistreatment of staff

“Sen. Klobuchar is one of the most brilliant, hardest-working members of the Senate, and I was glad to serve alongside her,” said Reid. “She’s tireless when it comes to fighting for the people of Minnesota and the country, and that’s why she’s such a popular Senator back home and among her colleagues.”

“Especially while in the car during a busy day: if she is EXTREMELY upset about something, let her rant through it, DON’T interupt [sic]her unless ABSOLUTELY necessary and be careful when trying to calm her down,” the memo reads. “Often she just needs to talk things out in the open and is not interested in other people’s opinions―this is something that you will become used to and adjust to―its just a note for the first time this happens.”

“Can she be hard to work for? Yeah, because she never stops working,” he said. “And that burns some people out, and that’s the job.... Show more...

Inappropriate encounters while working for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer?

“I absolutely loved my time working in the Senate and it was the honor of my life. I deeply regret the mistakes I made on the number of occasions when I had too much to drink, and I apologize to anyone who was affected by my behavior. I have always respected all of my colleagues and I was horrified to learn that I made anyone feel uncomfortable,” House told The Huffington Post.

Theresa May survives no-confidence vote 325 to 306

Mrs May announced afterwards that she wanted to immediately start talks with opposition leaders tonight about a way forward, but Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and the Liberal Democrats said they would not do so until she rules out a no-deal #Brexit.

Should be possible for her; she knows better than to not rule out a No-Deal Brexit that would destroy her country's economy completely. She cannot rely on the voices of the die-hard Brexiters who would rather see the land go down into a pit of grease than to confess they were mistaken about a Brexit with no plan for the future. Those people would also wish to go back into the ages of absolute monarchy and a Thames malfunctioning as a city's garbage bin.

The scale of the rebellion last night was beyond even the worst-case scenario of many in the UK government. It was the worst in British parliamentary history and saw the highest number of government MPs cross the floor, with ... Show more...

#Trump - not the man to call for motivational services

The truth is, for the past two years, American family farmers have taken the brunt of the administration’s trade wars. Retaliatory tariffs, lost trade relationships and unstable markets have pushed the American farm economy to its brink. In fact, the majority of farms have earned negative farm income in recent years, and many are being forced to sell the farm. The president must right the ship immediately, as farmers can no longer afford to hold out hope for “the greatest harvest.”

Rather than work with our top trading partners like Canada, Mexico, Japan and the European Union to address common grievances with China, we’ve offended all of our allies. Not only has this ruined positive trading relationships with trade allies, it has weakened our leverage to deal with the world’s shared trade aggressor, China.

Amid government shutdown, #Pentagon approved prolonging support mission along US-Mexican border

"In response to the December 27, 2018 request from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Acting Secretary of Defense Pat #Shanahan approved Department of Defense assistance to #DHS through Sept. 30, 2019," said a Pentagon statement issued late Monday.

At its height as many as 5,900 active duty troops were sent to the border to "harden" ports of entry by placing security barriers and concertina wire. The mission also included aviation units to transport Customs and Border Protection agents along the border and military police units to provide them protection.

How #Trump's stubborn consistency could affect his 2020 election outcome

Even during the 2016 Republican primaries, a majority of voters opposed deporting all undocumented immigrants in all but two of the 20 states where exit polls asked their opinion. Yet the minority of voters that supported deportation backed Drumpf in such preponderant numbers that they provided a majority of his votes in all but two of the 20 states.

The same pattern was evident in the general election. In the exit poll, just 41 percent of voters supported Drumpf’s border wall, while a solid majority of 54 percent opposed it. Yet Drumpf won a much higher share of the wall’s supporters (85 percent) than Hillary Clinton did of the wall’s opponents (76 percent). Roughly one-fourth of the wall’s opponents either voted for Drumpf (16 percent) or drifted away to a third-party candidate (8 percent).

In the exit poll, 18 percent of the college-educated whites who oppose... Show more...

Former Canadian prime minister Kim Campbell joins Congresswoman-elect Rashida #Tlaib in calling Trump a motherfucker

The now deleted tweet echoed the language used by Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib during an event on Thursday while predicting the new House will impeach President Donald #Trump.

I said it once before and I will say it once again - when you occupy an official position, you should not use curse words as your language in office. It's below your standards; just because Donnie uses such a language doesn't mean that you have to join him. We should keep our moral superiority as rationally thinking people.

_Her original tweet had more than 2,000 retweets, but it was deleted by Sunday afternoon.__

Two polls concerning civility in Washington D.C. and on immigration

Two polls, which were commenced by National Public Radio (NPR), Marist Poll, and the PBS Newshour, are concerned about how civility has developed in Washington D.C. since Donald Trump has become president on the one hand, and how people view Trump's decisions and overall progress on the immigration situation, which may have been highlighted on the mgirant caravan which lastly ended up in Tijuana and the gates in which legal entrance is possible as long as your state of condition matches the US' approval.
My tip: Check the Republican approval rate on the immigration question.

#Macron confronted #MBS as well

During a group photo marking the start of the summit, the prince stood at the far edge of the group, largely ignored and left alone as soon as it was over. But a few minutes later, Vladimir #Putin greeted the Saudi prince warmly, giving him a high five as they sat down together at the large ring-shaped table for the first group session.

Authoritarian leaders never cease to maintain their alliances, of course. Even they know that one cannot withstand the constant struggles without having some tricks up their sleeve, for example friends who would support htem in times of fierce struggles.

Regarding the 41st president's decease and the 45th president

"I don't like him. I don't know much about him, but I know he's a blowhard. And I'm not too excited about him being a leader," said George Bush Sr, who was president between 1989 and 1993.

There's not much to be known about this turd, and the more you know about him, the fiercer the insults will become. I'm glad he didn't become a target to his childish behaviour too often, talking about Mr. McCain, who has deceased not very long ago as well...
