Economic warfare: Trafficking minors as soldiers

Kirkpatrick reports that some families in Sudan are so desperate for money from Riyadh, they bribe militia officers to allow their children to fight, some as young as 14 years old. While estimates vary and Saudi Arabia denied employing child soldiers, the Times reports that minors make up anywhere from 20 percent to 40 percent of the Sudanese fighters in a unit:

This has gone from desperate to awkwardly macabre. I mean, how desperate do you have to be to sell your own children to Arabic warmongers to let them fight in a war that cannot be won by any side anymore? This is strangely sinister. I have got no proper words to describe it anymore. I mean, they sell their children to a war they may not even understand, they may not even know which whom they'd side, it's a foreign war to them. They only know that there are people who need new resources to fire against their enemies.
