#VirtualBox Alternatives?

So -- I'm giving up on #Oracle's VirtualBox #VM #virtualizer.

After endless battles with it's #dumbass Additions/extensions (which should just be part of the overall package itself) -- I just lost a week of work when VB corrupted a .vdi [dropping ALL of the settings from the #vdi] and also nuked the ability to get to any of the VDI's #snapshots. This happened just as the VM sat there -- not by adding/deleting snapshots or changing settings. It just nuked itself. I can not even restore the #VDI, as it has the same ID as the nuked one. Pretty #Frustrating.

I am fairly leery of HP's #vmware VM variant; because being security-aware, I remember the multiple times that #HP has been caught releasing drivers with hidden logging (and reporting back) of user's activities. <- And HP just keeps doing this.

This does not lead me to trust a HP VM setup quite so much.

Has anyone slogged through setting up #QEMU?
https://www.qemu.org/
Is it worth the effort?

Are there any other #recommended VM #alternatives?
