The Big Loser in the Iowa Debate? CNN’s Reputation | FAIR

Phillip obviously knew that Sanders had unequivocally stated that he had not said that. But by inserting the word “confirmed” into the preface, she put Sanders in the position of someone denying reality—despite the fact that his alleged remark would contradict his public position going back 30 years. And immediately after getting Sanders to reiterate his statement that he never told Warren that a woman couldn’t win the election, Philip turned to Warren and asked: “Sen. Warren, what did you think when Sen. Sanders told you a woman could not win the election?”—a question premised on the assumption that Sanders had just lied about what he had said.

On how to properly support parents and children alike

When social scientists tracked the life outcomes for the children and parents who took part in the programme, the results were unexpectedly terrible. Children came out no cleverer and with worse health, life satisfaction and rates of criminal offence. Although women worked more, the taxes generated on their additional labour fell far short of the costs of running the programme.

How sad they didn't link the study itself, so that one eager reader could track back the study and its outcome. I would be happy to have read it, but am not interested in doing their work, uncertain whether I have found the correct one.

In Washington, dc, it costs around $22,000 a year. Assuming identical costs, Ms Warren’s plan would grant a well-to-do professional couple in the city making $150,000 an $11,500 subsidy to deposit Junior in day care. And although it is true that a poor working mother would receive the same service free of charge, the public costs of looking after her child might well exceed her an... Show more...

Elizabeth Warren (D - MA) attacks the big tech companies

Warren, who released her proposal before a rally in New York’s neighborhood where Amazon abruptly canceled its so-called HQ2, called for appointing new regulators and passing legislation to “unwind tech mergers that illegally undermine competition” and prohibit companies from selling their own goods in marketplaces they operate, a clear reference to Amazon’s dominant business.

Internally, however, tech giants have long been gearing up for increasing hostilities in D.C. Facebook has been hiring an army of lobbyists and policy experts in the capital, Amazon is pouring millions into lobbying, and Google set records last year for lobbying spending that reached over $21 million.

Sen. Harris (D - CA) and Warren (D - MA) promise reparations for African-Americans

"We have to be honest that people in this country do not start from the same place or have access to the same opportunities," Harris said in the statement. "I’m serious about taking an approach that would change policies and structures and make real investments in black communities."

Among those who have not backed the policy are former President Obama, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her Democratic rival that year, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the Times noted. Sanders is running for president again in 2020.

Two articles on the anti-Democratic disinformation assaults

1. Politico

The cyber propaganda — which frequently picks at the rawest, most sensitive issues in public discourse — is being pushed across a variety of platforms and with a more insidious approach than in the 2016 presidential election, when online attacks designed to polarize and mislead voters first surfaced on a massive scale.

_Not all of the activity is organized. Much of it appears to be organic, a reflection of the politically polarizing nature of some of the candidates. But there are clear signs of a coordinated effort of undetermined size that shares similar characteristics with the computational propaganda attacks launched by online trolls at Russia’s Internet Research Agency in the 2016 presidential campaign, which special counsel Robert Mueller accused of aiming to undermine the political process and elevate Donald Drumpf.__

On Eliabetz Warren's (D - MA) child-care plan

Foremost, it assumes that most Americans want their children to attend day-care centers, when in fact, most parents would prefer to be able to care for their children themselves or rely on family-based care or the closest approximation to it.

Well, they didn't ask too many people though. We're speaking about a large nation when talking about the US. To only ask about 3,341 people altogether is not quite a lot if you ask me. In Germany, which is a way smaller nation, this amount of people would indicate that the study is not representative. Sorry, NR, but you chose a comparably weak study to underline your argument.

It would be far better to focus on making life more affordable for all families, by reforming tax and regulatory policies that drive up the cost of living and make it more difficult to live on one income, than to layer on another costly government subsidy that only helps some.

Elizabeth Warren (D - Mass.) promotes economically populist agenda

Today, Lawrence like many other factory towns in the Northeast and the Midwest is struggling economically after corporate America abandoned the United States and offshored American jobs in the pursuit of profits over patriotism.

Warren fought corporate greed and corruption before crusades against Wall Street were cool. She studied and battled corruption in the financial industry as a professor at the Harvard University Law School before she ran for the U.S. Senate. She used her academic prominence to call for the creation of a federal watchdog agency that would protect consumers against abuses by the financial industry on Wall Street.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D - MA) announces president candidacy

Over 44 minutes in sub-freezing temperatures, Warren described a political elite "bought off" and "bullied" by corporate giants, and a middle class squeezed so tight it "can barely breathe."

"The man in the White House is not the cause of what is broken, he is just the latest and most extreme symptom of what's gone wrong in America," Warren said of President Donald Drumpf.

"There'll be plenty of doubters and cowards and armchair critics this time around," Warren said. "But we learned a long time ago, you don't get what you don't fight for."

Once upon a time, #Trump proposed a higher wealth tax

Trump's words verbatim: "By my calculations, 1 percent of Americans, who control 90 percent of the wealth in this country, would be affected by my plan. The other 99 percent of the people would get deep reductions in their federal income taxes.”

Two, he wanted a fairly hefty rate — 14.5 percent — that would have required a lot of rapid-fire liquidation of business assets. Warren’s rate structure is much lower than that.

The plan didn’t really make a ton of sense, but it does underscore one reason that very wealthy people express a lot of anxiety about the national debt.

I'm sure this was just a youthful folly, and nothing else, noting more serious. I'm pretty sure about this. At least he sounded more eloquent in the past, although this is nothing to challenge compared to his today's tweets.

Socialism arise!

_If implemented, the tax would raise $2.75 trillion over a 10-year period, according to a study he conducted.__

The intent of the tax is to "narrow the gap between wealth growth at the top and wealth growth for the middle class," Saez wrote in an email Thursday to CBS News.

But economists say that taxing assets as opposed to income would be an administrative challenge. High net-worth individuals tend to have their wealth tied up in difficult to value assets, like real estate and private companies, which would make it hard for government officials to determine what individuals owed, said Nicole Kaeding, the Director of Federal and Special Projects at the Tax Foundation, in a telephone interview with CBS News. On top of that, the types of people who would be subject to the tax would be the ones best positioned to avoid it, Kaeding said.

Democrats are sorry

Even before the 2020 Democratic presidential primary kicks into gear — and ahead of Sanders’ own decision about whether he’ll run again — the contours of the race are being shaped by an apology tour of sorts.

_“People want answers to the questions [about candidates' records] right now,” said Jerry Skurnik, a Democratic consultant in New York. “But there’s also no question that a large proportion of the Democratic Party’s likely voters has moved further to the left.”__

Also included was a Gabbard quote from her time as a state legislator, when she advocated that “as Democrats, we should be representing the views of the people, not a small number of homosexual extremists.”

Elizabeth Warren starts presidential campaign race in #Iowa

During a Saturday morning event in Sioux City, audience members were given the chance to ask the Massachusetts senator questions. The first? A query about her decision to take a DNA test and release the results on her Native American ancestry.

After the question from the audience member, Warren on Saturday told Iowan voters that the test wasn't meant to show any claim to a tribe and said she understood and respected the difference between ancestry and tribal citizenship. She said after the attacks she merely just wanted to "put it all out there."

Elizabeth Warren candidates for presidency in 2020

Others, including some of Warren’s fellow senators, are also getting ready to make announcements of their own, and some are expected within days, according to the Washington Post.

I hope that the others are going to announce their candidacy soon as well. The sooner you start to gather money and sound for your election, the better it is. They are going to face an important election, they will have to kick out the orange buffoon and tidy up the mess the toddler with a constant temper tantrum has created.

“I’ve spent my career getting to the bottom of why America’s promise works for some families, but others, who work just as hard, slip through the cracks into disaster,” Warren, 69, says in the video. “And what I’ve found is terrifying: these aren’t cracks families are falling into, they’re traps. America’s middle class is under attack.”

#Democrats arm up for campaign rallies

All four are likely to spend considerable time and money in 2019 competing with one another to answer the strong yearning from Democrats for new leadership, and they don’t want to lose a step to a rival fresh face, such as Representative Beto O’Rourke, the former Texas Senate candidate who has been the focus of intense speculation in recent weeks as a potential presidential candidate.

But still, he's not the strongest potential candidate for the Democratic presidential candidate, just saying. He's the third strongest, behind Joe Biden and someone completely different.

And they might well scramble the early polling leads held by Mr. Biden and Mr. Sanders, who benefit from strong name recognition but would be in their late 70s by Election Day 2020, at a moment when some in the party are agitating for generational change.

We need younger candidates!

New results on Democrats in Iowa poll

The poll found that Biden's support dropped, from 37 percent in September to 30 percent in December.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) took a significant hit, dropping from 16 percent support in September to 9 percent in December.

The other potential candidates to receive more than 2 to 3 percent were Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), with 7 percent support, and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), with 6 percent.

Outgoing Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who lost a Senate race last month, is in third place, at 11 percent. Slightly behind him are Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth #Warren at 8 percent, and California Sen. Kamala #Harris at 5 percent.

In the end, Beto O'Rourke might be a little bit too progressive, too idealist, without a major hinge of realism. This is where Bernie Sanders is a bit ahead, and Joe Biden is a man of experience, he has a long time of working as a politician. I don't know how much this applies to Mr. Sanders, he is a classical Socialist, if you want to call it like this.

Op-Ed by Elizabeth #Warren on her vision

And the United States can no longer maintain the comfortable assumption that its domestic and foreign policies are separate. Every decision the government makes should be grounded in the recognition that actions that undermine working families in this country ultimately erode American strength in the world. In other words, we need a foreign policy that works for all Americans.

She's got a point there. Donnie believes that he can do whatever he want, that it would be all right and wouldn't affect the exterior affairs, although the US are one of the mightiest nations in the whole world.
