Fourht dead migrant in CBP custody

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the death Tuesday, saying agents arrested the 40-year-old man early Sunday for re-entering the country illegally. His identity wasn't released.

He died at an El Paso hospital after receiving treatment for flu-like symptoms and liver and kidney failure. He's the fourth migrant to die in CBP custody since December, including an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl.

In a statement, ACLU Border Rights Center Director Astrid Dominguez said "a transparent and independent investigation into the conditions at CBP detention facilities and its medical care practices is needed immediately."

Liberals either handle the border situation, or fascists take over

Clinton’s assessment of the European political situation is accurate. According to recent poll numbers, 63 percent of French people believe too many immigrants are living in their country. One-third of the British people who voted in 2016 to leave the European Union cited immigration as their primary reason. In Germany, 38 percent rate immigration as the most important issue facing their country. Thanks in great part to their anti-immigration messages, populist parties now govern Italy, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.

Across the developed world, very high levels of immigration have coincided with widening class divisions, the discrediting of political and economic elites, and the rise of extremist politics. And immigration pressures will only intensify in the decades ahead, for reasons obscured by media coverage of immigrants as poor and desperate.

On the hearing of Wells Fargo before the House (feat. AOC, Maxine Waters et al.)

That’s not all. Over the past several years, Wells Fargo has been slapped with fines for abuses involving members of the military (including charging them higher interest rates, improperly repossessing their cars without a court order, and not disclosing their military status to courts while trying to evict them), numerous allegations of racism, and other consumer abuses.

“The past few years have taught us that our company does well by doing right. But doing right does not stop with simply repairing harm and rebuilding trust,” Sloan, who was last seen in the halls of Congress getting dragged to hell and back by Elizabeth Warren, said in prepared remarks.

Several Democrats, such as Rep. Carolyn Maloney and Ayanna Pressley, used their turns to sharply criticize Wells Fargo for its relationship with the NRA and the firearms industry. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, meanwhile, slammed the bank for having its grubby paws all over some of the wor... Show more...

On the (actual) crisis at the border

More than 76,000 migrants were apprehended crossing the southern border last month, the highest February in more than 10 years and the highest month of the Drumpf administration. The number of apprehensions tops any month during the 2014 border surge under President Barack Obama, which no one had a problem calling a crisis at the time.

There is no mechanism to return these migrants home, to hold them after they cross the border, or to remove them once they are in the interior. And word has gotten out. There’s a reason that the subset of migrants that we can’t stop from getting into the country is rapidly growing.

We should question why there is no such mechanism to return them. Because then, we would get to the actual crisis: The irresponsibility of the US ( country founded by immigrants) when it comes to safely returning those people. In the past, they used to simply tell them that they wouldn't get in, and to return from where they've come from. This indeed is irresponsible, regarding the s... Show more...

DHS Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen defends Trump's separation policy

"This is not a manufactured crisis," Nielsen told the House Homeland Security Committee. "This is truly an emergency."

A misspelling: There's an emergency along the border, but not the emergency Trump made up, that caused this inhumane policy of spearating children from their parents, causing a lifelong trauma.

"No amount of verbal gymnastics will change that she knew the Drumpf administration was implementing a policy to separate families at the border," Democratic Rep. Bernie Thompson said.

"It should be very clear from these numbers that we are facing alarming trends in the rising volumes of people illegally crossing our southwest border or arriving at our ports of entry without documents," CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said Tuesday.

US plan to send Central American immigrants back to Mexico

On Friday, a U.S. official said several government agencies met this week to discuss implementing the policy in more border cities. Rights groups are simultaneously suing the U.S. government to try to close down the program, which plaintiffs says breaks the law and endangers refugees.

“I have nowhere to go and no money for me or for my children. I’m afraid of being in Mexico, the crime here is like back home,” Chavez said at the Madre Asunta shelter, where she is waiting with three of her children for an immigration hearing in San Diego on March 27.

“More people than expected are arriving, we weren’t expecting the returnees. They are going to saturate the shelters,” said Salome Lima of the Madre Asunta shelter.

Third casualty in CBP custody

CBP says the man was detained on February 2 after crossing the border illegally. He initially asked for medical attention from the Roma Police Department. He was transported to the regional medical center and then cleared to travel to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station.

He wanted to be caught, because he needed medical support.

The man was initially diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and congestive heart failure, though the official cause of death is not known, according to CBP. He remained at McAllen Medical Center until his death.

Six migrants, none of whom were children, died in CBP custody during fiscal year 2018, according to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. Total numbers for the current fiscal year are not immediately available.

Separated children given to sponsor families will not be given back to parents

Jonathan White, who leads the Health and Human Services Department’s efforts to reunite migrant children with their parents, said removing children from “sponsor” homes to rejoin their parents “would present grave child welfare concerns.” He said the government should focus on reuniting children currently in its custody, not those who have already been released to sponsors.

It is unknown how many families were split under a longstanding policy that allows separation under certain circumstances, such as serious criminal charges against a parent, concerns over the health and welfare of a child or medical concerns.

Illegal workers of Trump National Golf Club fired earlier this month

“I told them no, so … after that they say so the company cannot keep you there,” he said. “I start crying because I told them — like, I've been working for so long.”

Sedano, who crossed illegally into the United States with his family in 2003, said it was easy to find work at Drumpf’s property two years later. The club needed employees so badly, he said, that he believes managers didn’t thoroughly check the fraudulent Social Security and green cards that he and other workers provided. It is illegal for workers to present false documents.

#Trump politicises federal employees after accusing Dems of the same

“It’s not a money thing. It’s a political thing,” Drumpf told Hannity of Democrats’ insistence that government reopen before border money is negotiated. “They look at the 2020 race and they’re not feeling too good about it — they will do whatever they can to win.”

Drumpf’s Hannity interview wasn’t the first time he used CBP agents as props this month — he pulled a similar stunt during an appearance in the White House briefing room on January 3. And hours before the Hannity interview aired, Drumpf posted a video in which he stood, again surrounded by CBP agents, and made a case for his border wall.

On the border patrol custody facilities

She added: "They are designed and meant for punishment and deterrence, and this is nothing unique about this administration. These [Customs and Border Protection] facilities have been nasty and ugly since I started this work."

Now, we still have to reflect the fact that these facilities have been built even before Obama has become president, am I right? We're not talking about the ICE, but about the border patrol. What can we say about this, nonetheless? That no sitting president cared about the conditions in which people have been taken custody. Neither Mr. Obama, nor Donnie, nor anyone before these two. It's terrifying.

"We've seen this coming," she said. "When you take a child and you put them into a facility that's cold, and they don't get proper sleep because the lights are on, and they have risk of infection from open toilets, it's a really bad combination of things that could really result in some very sick children."

Throwback: Trumpist border patrol agents commit sabotage to refugees' water lets

Volunteers found water gallons vandalised 415 times, on average twice a week, in an 800 sq mile patch of Sonoran desert south-west of Tucson, from March 2012 to December 2015, the report said. The damage affected 3,586 gallons.

The report, published by No More Deaths and La Coalición de Derechos Humanos, said wildlife – as well as hunters, hikers and border militia members – also damaged aid drops. But it said the main culprits were agents from border patrol, a branch of Customs and Border Protection, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security.

If wildlife damaged the water lets to drink it themselves, I would be less upset than about border patrol agents, who poured the water away so that no-one, let alone the help-seeking refugees, drank it.

Congressmen of New #Mexico upset about girl's death and facility conditions

In addition, Castro and the other congressional members criticized the condition of the facilities they toured, saying they jeopardized the health of immigrants and CBP agents and officers working there.
Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-Calif., an emergency care physician, said the visit and conversations with supervisors “revealed” that Jacklin suffered seizures before she eventually became unresponsive.

Pretty late you are, the girl's decease has happened a few days ago. Also, I really hope you're serious about it, because to be honest, I wonder how you can stand the existence of the #ICE in such times, or the methods they use to (mis)treat the migr... Show more...

Congress not permitted to speak with agents on 7-year old girl's death

"While DHS respects the oversight role of Congress, it is important to allow the review process occur unimpeded by politics," spokeswoman Katie Waldman said in a statement. "It is important to preserve the legitimacy of a fair and impartial process out of respect to the agents' lifesaving mission and the family of the deceased."

Somehow, I still feel like this was just a good reason to infere a worthwhile investigation on her death, and a good means to veil the real encounter that led to her death. She still died on the American side of the border, from starvation and a shock, which sounds like her death was intentional, and not just subsequent to her poor conditions.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan demanding a more detailed timeline and accounting of what happened to Maquin during her time in custody.

On Chaffetz's comment on the girl that has died in custody, from starvation

What to say when a girl of seven years, migrant from Honduras to the country of eternal freedom and safety, the United States of Fuckery, has died in custody, executed by the ICE, on American soil, died from starvation and dehydration? Well, she shouldn't have made this journey altogether, then she would have died in her country, so that it would not become a problem of ours.

If you ever wonder why people turn anti-American, look what kind of people are permitted to occupy an office, become Representatives of their state, or even presidents in their country. The country that was founded on genocide, committed genocides across the world, and insists to repeat the same at its very own border. The country that now embraces its patriotism and is allied by European leftists. The hypocrisy is real.

“The sad reality is we have a 7-year-old girl who has died, and she should have never, ever made that journey,” #Chaffetz said. “And that should be the message, don't make this journey, it will kill you, and that should be the message.”

You know what? Send this man behind the American border, and never let him in again legally, so that he will be forced to go through the same torture as those migrants do. Withdraw all his money, all food and all beverages. Treat him like a normal Honduran or Guatemaltecan migrant, including the tear gas procedure and a custody as this little girl experienced. When we're lucky, he will die from starvation or dehydration as well.

#California likely to consider legal actions against tear gas use

“We have been approached by folks who have expressed complaints,” California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in an interview with Reuters on Wednesday. “We are monitoring what’s occurring.”
Reuters notes, however, that California has limited jurisdiction, because the federal government has large authority over border and immigration policies.
But Becerra told the news outlet that California could have the authority to take legal action if a state resident was impacted by the Border Patrol agents' use of force this past weekend.

So, Mr. Becerra would like to take legal actions against the tear gas use by border patrol agents, but he can't because their is no legal foundation that spoke against it? Thus, he has to wait until the federal government creates this foundation, so that he will be able to file a complaint about it? Damn, that's restrictive,... Show more...

#Migrants not going to be charged after clashes with border patrol agents

The only two individuals Customs and Border Protection referred for prosecution ended up not being charged because they had medical problems and could not be held at the San Diego detention center, according to reports.
Others were not charged because they came in family units with children. Still others escaped prosecution because in the chaos surrounding Sunday’s incident, authorities missed pieces of information necessary to file charges, such as the names of the officers who made arrests.

They were better off not charging them. I mean, you cannot use tear gas against them after blocking them from asking for asylum, and then expect them to not defend themselves. It's a typical all-American behaviour: Shoot someone, then interrogate him, and freak out when one's victim starts to hit one back. As if this was not all-natural.

Images of the tragedy at the #US border

Mesa said her 3-year-old son James, who does not appear in the picture, was also with them and fainted after getting a lung-full of gas.
"One of them could have died," she said.
Kim said Mesa "was travelling with five children."

It couldn't have been worse. I mean, when I know that there are children in the masses of migrants and protesters, I think twice about using tear gas to send them away from the border fence. I mean, children are drastically vulnerable, and rely on their parents. Thus, when sent to the border, they didn't necessarily do that on their own, but followed their parents. Punishing them for that is irresponsible and should be brought to court.
