See Which Animals Have the Most Enormous—and Tiniest—Babies
A giant panda mom is 900 times more massive than her baby, while a giraffe baby is one-tenth the size of its mom.
Why So Little?
Whether an animal has big or little babies depends on how self-sufficient the babies need to be at birth. Babies that need a lot of care are called altricial babies, and animals that are born more developed are called precocial. Both pandas and people fall firmly on the altricial end of the spectrum...

From my ongoing series of animals that live in a German animal shelter...

Yoki

To help out another animal shelter a litter of 5 kitten was taken over. One of them is Yoki. Their mother had low immunity so all the kitten were precautionary treated with Schüssler Salt Therapy. The shelter wants to make sure that only healthy animals go into adoption.

The intention of my posts is not to find people that adopt those pets. This German animal shelter accepts only local adoptions and has a very good placement rate. My intention is to raise awareness for all those beautiful pets in the shelters out there waiting for you to be their hero. Go to your nearest animal shelter to find your new pet. Adopt! Don't shop!

photoset monitor lizard
The perentie (Varanus giganteus) is the largest monitor lizard or goanna native to Australia, and the fourth-largest living lizard on earth, after the Komodo dragon, Asian water monitor, and the crocodile monitor. They can grow over eight feet in length.
In 2005, researchers discovered that all monitors may be somewhat venomous. Previously, bites inflicted by monitors were thought to be prone to infection because of bacteria in their mouths, but the researchers showed that the immediate effects are caused by mild envenomation.
Depending on their size, they hunt insects, lizards, fish, birds, and small animals such as rats and rabbits. Larger individuals will also hunt large animals, such as small kangaroos, wombats, and even lone dingoes.

awesome photoset!
Noodle tongue!
The giant anteater (along with the other 3 species of anteater) has no teeth and is capable of only very limited jaw movement.
Jaw depression creates an oral opening large enough for the slender tongue to flick out. It is typically 24 inches long and is triangular posteriorly, rounded anteriorly, and ends in a small, rounded tip. The tongue is covered in backward-curving papillae and coated in thick, sticky saliva, which allows the giant anteater to collect insects with it. ..

Polar bear photos 'testify to the beauty of this fragile world'
After several decades photographing his favorite subjects, Rawicki shares his images in "Polar Bears: A Life Under Threat," published by ACC Art Books. The beautifully illustrated book contains gorgeous photos of bears playing, lolling, hunting and walking on the ice.
Rawicki says on land, he is only about 100 meters (110 yards) away from the bears. When photographing them by sea, he's often even closer.
Rawicki shot the photos throughout Alaska, Canada, Norway, Greenland and the Arctic Ocean...

This may be why the 'devil worm' can live where no other animal can
And it may teach us how to handle our own changing habitat.
...Known as "heat-shock" protein, Hsp70 is found in much smaller amounts in pretty much all life forms. Its job is to repair cells that are damaged from heat. And while other nematodes have Hsp70, H. mephisto boasts it in spades.
The sequencing revealed the worm’s Hsp70 genes were copies of themselves, essentially giving it duplicates and triplicates and quadri — err, you get the idea — until it could endure even the most hellish of habitats...
