Japanese hikikomori have an own newspaper

To many hikikomori, this dire image is misleading and self-defeating. “ [BBC]have made a serious mistake by broadcasting a false message to the world,” a hikikomori (who did not want to be named) tells me over email. “This is very sinful.”

Hikikomori Shimbun, which publishes every alternate month, profiles individual hikikomori and provides news and resources for recluses and their parents, such as a list of events and support groups focused on reintegrating this collective of outcasts.

Nearly all of them are either current or former hikikomori, and one of the first volunteers was a man who had been hikikomori for 30 years. The paper, published digitally, also has a print version that sells for 500¥ ($4.50). Sales of the print version, supplemented with Kimura’s own savings, cover operating costs. Approximately once a month, he holds editorial meetings in his apartment to plan and discuss future issues.

The people who vaccinate the least are the most educated and affluent

Here is a quote from Prevent Disease

Studies Demonstrate The More Educated You Are, The Less Chance You Will Vaccinate

More educated parents are less likely to vaccinate, which contradicts the misconceptions of many health professionals who profess that parents don't vaccinate because they are under-educated, poor or misinformed.

One publication of medical research linking the MMR vaccine to autism in The Lancet in February 1998 sparked a decade-long controversy about the triple jab. Following the initial publication, the uptake rate of the MMR vaccine dropped from 92% in 1997/98 to 80% in 2003/04.

A report examines how the response to the MMR controversy varied between parents with different levels of education. It revealed that:

Before 1998, highly educated parents were up to 8% more likely to take up the MMR vaccine... show more

The big question – which one must face as a primate (ape) is: “Social-IQ” / “Society-IQ”: can humans as a group and even as a bigger group of millions still behave intelligently?

Millenials and Capitalism

And his answer, in so many words, is the economy. Millennials, he argues, are bearing the brunt of the economic damage wrought by late-20th-century capitalism. All these insecurities — and the material conditions that produced them — have thrown millennials into a state of perpetual panic. If “generations are characterized by crises,” as Harris argues, then ours is the crisis of extreme capitalism.

_ reference Marxism here (even though his name never appears in the book) because conventional American economists don’t really have a term for this — it’s not something they like to talk about because they don’t recognize that capitalism is built on exploitation._

So, the world exists, but they don't utter it because they therefore had to recognise that labour these days is not based on voluntariness but bare exploitation.

But now you have individual workers, individual students, taking on this burden of making themselves into the workers the economy needs them to be and... show more

Congresswoman AOC (D - NYC) clarifies corporate undermining of election campaigns

“So I use my special interest dark money campaign to pay off folks that I need to pay off and get elected. So now I’m elected, now I’m in, I’ve got the power to draft, lobby, and shape the laws that govern the United States of America. Fabulous. Now, is there any hard limit that I have in terms of what legislation I’m allowed to touch? Are there any limits on the laws that I can write, or influence, especially if – based on the special interest funds that I accepted to finance my campaign that got me elected in the first place?”

JetBlue president against worker unions

“As a result of our success, there will always be union reps, and even fellow crew members, who try to convince you that paying dues and having a union would be a better way to go. However, a union would never be able to give you a list of accomplishments like this,” Geraghty wrote in the email seen by the Guardian.

That's right! Just because you work hard and are only paid a little doesn't mean that you should really fight for better payment and fewer working hours. I mean, how would all these achievements be accomplished if the concern was not able to exploit your workforce? You must see how we were able to come this far, this only worked because the fellow workers have been exploited. And the concern's success must come first, always!

“The company is strongly against organizing. They say if we organize we are going to lose the culture. We are the culture, we make the culture, not the company and their very tight rules,” the worker added.

#McKinsey advised Purdue Pharma in selling more opioids

McKinsey’s consultants, the attorney general revealed, had instructed the drug company, Purdue Pharma, on how to “turbocharge” sales of OxyContin, how to counter efforts by drug enforcement agents to reduce opioid use, and were part of a team that looked at how “to counter the emotional messages from mothers with teenagers that overdosed” on the drug.

There are no boundaries when it pushes your sales, neither moral, nor ethical ones. As long as it benefits your sales, it's all right.

Purdue Pharma helped plant the seeds of the opioid epidemic through its aggressive marketing of OxyContin. More than 130 people die each day in the United States — 47,000 in 2017 — after overdosing on opioids, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Non-christian Christian organisations Betsy DeVos is related to

Source I: Snopes: https://www.snopes.com/news/2018/06/26/bethany-christian-services-family-separation-betsy-devos/

Bethany Christian Services, an adoption center with financial ties to [Education Secretary] Betsy DeVos, has taken 81 immigrant children who were forcibly separated from their parents at the border. Most have had no contact with their families. They’re charging $700 per child per night. This isn’t foster care, this is state-sponsored kidnapping.

The links between the extended DeVos family and Bethany are undeniable. Tax filings archived by ProPublica show that between 2001 and 2015, the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation (the philanthropic organization run by DeVos and her husband) gave $343,000 in grants to Bethany Christian Services.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I - VT) questions horrendous price hike for drugs

The drug, Firdapse, is used to treat Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS), a rare neuromuscular disorder, according to the letter, made available to Reuters by the senator's office. The disorder affects about one in 100,000 people in the United States.

In the letter dated Feb. 4, Sanders asked Catalyst to lay out the financial and non-financial factors that led the company to set the list price at $375,000, and say how many patients would suffer or die as a result of the price and how much it was paying to purchase or produce the drug.

Das soll EU... show more

Capitalism's so bad, even Faux News' Tucker Carlson dispproves of it

Ever since, he has been pounded from both left and right. The Limits of Tucker Carlson’s Anti-Free Market Vision, declared a headline in Slate. Tucker Carlson’s Monologue Insults His Viewers, ran a title line in the Atlantic. In National Review, David French urged the right to reject Carlson’s “victimhood populism”, while Bret Stephens in the New York Times mocked him for questioning elite rule when he himself has so benefited from it.

“For generations,” he declared, “Republicans have considered it their duty to make the world safe for banking while simultaneously prosecuting ever more foreign wars.” Americans “are ruled by mercenaries who feel no long-term obligation to the people they rule”.

why are Trump and AfD so successful - short explanation - Erfolg von Trump und AfD mit einem Satz erklärt

How can Trump and AfD be so successful at elections?

Quite simply: adding to decades full of deliberate exploitation, miss-management and corruption scandals (feeling of constantly being cheated on) – it is the feeling of people that politicians have delivered them to “out of control” globalization and people want back control (over their country).

In the uncontrolled migration / refugee wave, the loss of control across the EU became apparent.

No bold reform can be expected from the “established” parties CDU/CSU/SPD.

On the death of local newspapers in the #US

The problem is in full focus this week after news of layoffs at three major media companies. While a lot of the attention is focused on national players HuffPost and BuzzFeed, the cuts at Gannett are the most worrisome, because it is one of the last big newspaper chains that has properties in markets of all size.

People want to blame the internet for the news industry’s troubles, but the seeds go back to the 1980s. To understand this moment and how to fix it, it means understanding three key forces creating this slow-motion disaster.

We focus on the “news” in newspaper, but those needs included things like TV guides, birth and death announcements, and calendars of community events. In the pre-internet world, papers functioned as pseudo-monopolies based on the limits of technology and the radius a delivery truck could travel. Online publishing, with its low cost and global reach, changed everything. Those i... show more
