Man survives bow-and-arrow attack thanks to his mobile phone
The resident held up his mobile phone to take a photo of the armed man who then engaged the bow and was ready to fire.
He was taken to Nimbin Police Station where he was charged with armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage.
This whole situation sounds to me like the irresponsible behaviour that is often discovered with nosy tourists who treat the residents (and often the Natives) like exhibted sights that can be photographed without any problems. Oh well, at least he is now without his phone. I mean, why would you take a photo of someone without asking him for permission to do so?#Australia #NorthernRivers #BowAndArrow #Tourism #Curious #Funny #Unusual #News

You may already have heard about Mandelbulber as I have, however only now I have came to actually play around with it a bit more, and have to say it really is an #awesome program. In case you didn't know Mandelbulber is a #FOSS program that allows you to generate and explore #surreal advanced 3D fractals, render them (with #raytracing) in high quality with many settings and effects, and even generate fly through #animation (like ). There are many presets, fractals and materials that come with the program, but you can of course make your own. There is also a possibility to combine existing fractals into so called hybrid ones.
I have chosen the new version 2 because it offers keyboard navigation, which I find more natural for the fractal exploration. The program is still WIP and rough around the edges, but the #fun is already real.
There is a very nice PDF manual that explains not only the program usage, but also the principles of how the fractals are generated and rendered (a few errors in the text here and there, but still very useful).
Here is an extremely beautiful eye-candy gallery of fractals generated with Mandelbulber. (Sadly I haven't seen any license, so watch out for the usage rights).
Despite being new to this, I have myself already taken a few nice shots and uploaded the to Wikimedia Commons (under #CC0, #publicdomain):
If you're feeling #curious, I hope you'll have as much fun as I do with this great program. #Share your creations, and please consider using #free licenses, so that they can live on and be used for education.
This Omnidirectional Treadmill Can Track Your Real-Life Steps For VR
This omnidirectional treadmill at Transport Systems Catapult in Milton Keynes, England is a pretty refined version of this technology and the video shows how natural walking will in future probably be built into games and simulations.
Why There Is One Lone Road In The US That Uses The Metric System - And Why It Will Eventually Change Back to the Imperial System
Quite a humorous video attempting to explain why the US is one of only three countries in the world that still sticks to the old colonial imperial system. One reason was that the US's standard 1kg got lost in transit when it was stolen by pirates back in the day (true story).
I have questions about #federation and #fediverse. I get that someone from a different pod can see my content. Does this mean that I will show up in the feeds of people using #Friendica and are in the #fediverse? Does it just mean I can communicate with people outside of #diaspora? Does it give priority to some content over others or does it treat all pods/social networks equally?
