Norway, the fascinating land of glaciers and fjords, midnight sun and trolls. 🌍
And the land of electrical cars. In Norway, in 2018 nearly every third sold new car is driven electronically (source: CAM, Reuters, Statista) and thus worldwide leading. Norway had set itself the goal to increase this number significantly within the next decade, selling only electrical driven cars in 2025. This is supposed to decrease CO2 emissions arising from the transport sector drastically when charged with renewable energy. .
At the same time, the success of electrical cars is inseparably linked to excessive demands of raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, graphite. Most mineral deposits are located in developing countries. Mining is responsible for serious health risks among workers, deforestation, erosions. Thus, every sold electrical car has a reverse side, far away in another part of the world. Wrote my bachelor thesis on this topic some years ago, so I won't bring up some outdated numbers now. But same goes for every mobile phone you buy, each banana you eat, every coffee you drink. .
What I think is that we really have to keep in mind is that everything we do is connected and has effects on someone else's life. Nothing is black or white, but it is good to keep in mind that we do have an impact, we do have a choice and have the power to change things for the better 🌱
