general rant about purism phone and android
I think what people don't mention about Purism, that they are a business. And sadly a bad one. They are going down the route of Apple. They want freedom for everyone, but it has a price.
Purism stuff is extremely pricey for me. As much as I want a handheld device that's based on free software. I can't afford it. And even if I could, it's really-really don't give back to me that much, that I can justify the price.
How about different tier devices? I just want to have a phone that I can call people with, listen to podcast, read the news in a non-flashy way (no flipboard kind of bullshit). I am sure for a device like this I don't have to pay 600+ euros (and no guarantee that it will work for let's say 4-5 years later).
**That's why I have a simple feature phone, which has proprietary-only software.**
Android is also not a good solution, most stuff are proprietary too, and you have to have significant knowledge to de-googlify your phone or tablet. (f-droid is nice though, keep working people, you are awesome!)
Android itself is built for pricey phones. On a low end hardware it's just shit.
But ultimately it's about convenience. How good would have been an Ubuntu phone or a Mozilla phone. But because it's not android (and they had to support android, because then nobody would have tried it), nobody cares...
