Innocuous Thing You Did In Public Prompts Inside Joke That Bonds Group Of Teens For Life

"The effects of antidepressant exposure during early development can pass down through three generations of offspring—at least in zebrafish. A new study, published today (December 10) in PNAS, reveals that fluoxetine, a commonly used antidepressant that goes by the brand name Prozac, can alter hormone levels and blunt stress responses in an exposed embryo and its descendants.

“The paper is very intriguing,” says Tim Oberlander, a developmental pediatrician at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital who was not involved in this work. The question of whether these medications have a transgenerational effect is “a really important one that requires further study in other animal models, and ultimately, when we have the data, we need to figure out whether it’s also true in humans.”

Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), a class of drugs widely used to treat depression as well as other conditions such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety disorders. Recent data from the US National Health and Nutrition... show more

"Taosheng Huang, a pediatrician and medical geneticist who heads the Mitochondrial Diseases Program at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, stumbled upon the first individual with mtDNA from both his parents by accident. The patient, a four-year-old boy who had some symptoms of a mitochondrial disorder, including fatigue and exercise intolerance, had come to be evaluated by Huang. The doctor sent his blood sample to the hospital’s diagnostic lab for mtDNA sequencing. The results showed that the boy appeared to have two populations of mitochondrial genomes, both at a relatively high level.

“My first instinct was that this was a mistake—even though I’ve never, in six years, seen our diagnostics lab make a mistake like this,” says Huang. He asked the patient to come back, drew a fresh blood sample himself, then sent the blood to the diagnostics lab, an in-house research lab, and an independent laboratory for sequencing. “We saw the same result come back from all three labs. #Education department chairwoman Betsy #DeVos forgives 50M $

DeVos has argued against the "borrower defense" regulation because, under the rule, she says it is too easy for students to have their debt forgiven, which is unfair to the taxpayer and colleges.

What the heck is wrong with this bitch? Seriously, many students who went to college pay back their debts for an entire lifetime. Does this make sense? Do I graduate to have a lifetime full of debts from my era of education, because I intended to find a job that is paid better, so that I will be able to feed a family? Seriously, the US are broken to the core, I can't see it without a sense of grief.

A federal judge in September, however, ruled that DeVos' efforts to thwart the 2016 Obama guidelines were illegal. The same judge also ruled in October against for-profit colleges that tried to argue for the immediate halt of the regulatio... show more

The yellow douche Paul Ryan gratifies his fellow #Irish people

But the measure has stirred opposition from the alt-right publication #Breitbart, which dubbed the visa program “amnesty for Irish lobbies“ and said it would take jobs away from U.S. college graduates.

Why?

The bill would give the Irish access to unused E-3 visas, which currently are available only to Australians in "specialty occupations" that require a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent. In return, Ireland would offer additional work visas to Americans, among other concessions.

I already like the bill because it benefits the Irish, although I really don't know why he did this especially for the Irish. Is this really a nod to his Irish ancestors, or because he was drunk in Boston? I really don't know, this comes from out of nowhere.

In one area of interest, Mueller wants to get to Drumpf’s “state of mind” regarding possible obstruction of justice in the investigation into any Russian collusion with the Drumpf campaign to manipulate the U.S. presidential election, a source told #CNN.
[...]
Van Jones, former special adviser to President Barack Obama, said Friday on CNN that the “reality is everybody knows that Drumpf can’t talk without lying. His lawyers are terrified that if he opens his mouth, he cannot tell the truth and would wind up going to jail.”

#Ohio senate approves «heartbeat bill» for abortion ban

Ohio's so-called heartbeat bill would ban abortions from the moment a heartbeat is detected in a fetus, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy — before some women even know they are pregnant.
Its author, president and founder of pro-life network Faith 2 Action Janet Porter first introduced the bill in Ohio in 2011 and has in past years described it as being designed to be the "arrow in the heart of Roe v. Wade," the 1973 case that legalized abortion nationwide.

There's not much to make out of it, is it? Holy shit, the US move back in time, it's not far to get into a «Handmaid's Tale»-like situation, and soon, we will go back to the time when pestilence raided Europe and vanished three quarter of the continent's population.

Ocasio-Cortez challenges Lindsey Graham on #Trump's impeachment

Impeachment is about cleansing the office. Impeachment is about restoring honor and integrity to the office.”

Oh, the irony - you can easily and flawlessly relate this statement on an impeachment process against Donnie, for we knwo that he and his affiliated employees and ministers committed crimes, crimes that are enough to be investigated. Why would you not investigate a sitting president when the evidences speak against him? Even the earlier Lindsey #Graham aggrees on this. :D

Priest questions teen's entry to heaven after having committed suicide

Maison Hullibarger’s father tells the Detroit Free Press that he asked the priest to stop talking during the Dec. 8 funeral Mass. But Jeff Hullibarger says the Rev. Don LaCuesta continued giving a critical sermon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Temperance.

If I was the father, I would have gotten up and slapped this priest, then leave the church. This is not even ekpathetic, this is downright arsehole-ish, God gave himself a facepalm in heaven, and wished for this bastardish creature to have never been created. Why does this man even practise this job if he is not interested in his sheep, but treats them like shit? I simply have got no words for this to describe his misbehaviour.

Mick #Mulvaney to become the acting White House Chief of Staff

A source familiar with the situation told CNN's Jim Acosta that the President wants Mulvaney to remain OMB director while serving as acting chief of staff. A White House official had earlier told CNN that Mulvaney was going step down from his OMB role and Vought would take over in an acting capacity.

To be honest, I don't fear that anything bad could happen when he sat in both positions. Firstly, the WH Chief of Staff position has been diminished by Donnie, it's only a merely representative position anymore, since Donnie overtook anything like the despised Louis XIV., and also, he's only acting. He will be replaced by an official personality when time has come. So what?

New right-winger's trend: Declaring to accept Jerusalem as Israel's capital city and moving embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

But the Australian Embassy won't be moved there from Tel Aviv until there's a peace settlement between Israel and Palestinians, he said in a speech.

This is that one step aside of the obligatory track of right-winged governments: to move the embassy away. But still, this symbolic declaration of theirs is enough to heaten up the Palestinians' pride. You don't need to side with them (or anyone of them solely) to understand that this move is highly undiplomatic and in no-one's favour (unless that one doesn't have a clue about politics; this would be an uninteresting exception).

The consideration had sparked backlash from Muslim-majority Indonesia and Malaysia, threatening a free trade deal which has now been delayed.

Oh, seriously, come on! Don't be fools, what would that be worth? Goddamn....

Thursday, the state's highest court sided with Beshear. It ruled that lawmakers cannot take a bill close to final passage and replace it with an unrelated bill without voting on it three times over three separate days as the Constitution requires.

«Liberal arts» may be abandoned in favour of the market

But the backbone of the idea almost went away in 2015, when Governor Scott Walker released his administration’s budget proposal, which included a change to the university’s mission. The Wisconsin Idea would be tweaked. The “search for truth” would be cut in favor of a charge to “meet the state’s workforce needs.”
[...]
In mid-November, the university announced its plans to stop offering six liberal-arts majors, including geography, geology, French, German, two- and three-dimensional art, and history.

Do they really think that those who (would have) study/-ied these arts would now change (or have changed) to something that goes rather more into the high-tech section? To me, this seems to be rather a decision made about the funding of these arts, they wish to put more money into the sections that create those workforces. #Obamacare ruled as unconstitutional by #Texas court

The 2012 Supreme Court case was over whether such a penalty was legal -- but now that it is gone, O'Connor says the whole Affordable Care Act should be stricken down because the provision is "the keystone" of the program.

Let's start the blame game again - which political party's sympathisers have ignited the voting machines so that the elections can't start as it was planned? A new system to prevent school shootings

Originally designed to help keep children safe online, Bark was monitoring children’s digital devices and sent alerts to parents when 17 people were massacred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14. Following the Parkland tragedy, the Bark team realized it needed to get the program into schools, and it needed to do so immediately.
[...]
Bark’s artificial intelligence monitors communication across students’ school-provided accounts, scanning for troubling issues such as cyberbullying, sexting and thoughts of suicide. Once a problem is detected, the pertinent snippet of the conversation is sent to the appropriate person, which could be an IT administrator, a school resource officer or even law enforcement, depending on the threat level.

This sounds helpful. I hope that this system will be able to prevent further school shootings, and even widen its range across the sea, so that we can soon use it in all other countries too. It might be a neat addit... show more

#Gandhi statue removed from Ghanaese university after revelation of racist writings

One of Gandhi's writings cited in the petition read: "Ours is one continual struggle against a degradation sought to be inflicted upon us by the Europeans, who desire to degrade us to the level of the raw Kaffir whose occupation is hunting, and whose sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with and, then, pass his life in indolence and nakedness."

I saved myself a collection of his prison writings, because I wanted to be inspired by his school of thoughts on civil disobedience. Now I have to hear that he used to be a racist who feared a degradation of the Indian people by black people? Seriously? What was wrong with him, why did he think this way? Wghere did this come from?
