It’s hard to have a pure digital-free musical experience anymore these days. Even if you buy new #vinyl
today, it was most likely recorded, mixed, and mastered digitally.
Which is why I was overjoyed to see my #local
store had the recent #mono
of The #Beatles
on vinyl, which was sourced at Abbey Road Studios from the original magnetic tapes, avoiding #digital
transfers in the process.
I had listened to the #stereo
version of this LP for decades, with no knowledge that prior to 1968, The Beatles released their albums in both mono and stereo versions, with the mono mixes receiving more scrutiny than the stereo (as stereophonic hadn’t yet become common).
It’s as if I’m hearing Revolver for the very first time the way The Beatles intended.
