On Trump's presidency after two years

Or would Drumpf, a rambunctious, ego-driven outsider who never follows the rules, change the office itself by establishing precedents that his successors would eventually use to justify their own flexing of presidential power?

Drumpf's verbal torching of the institutions of his own government like the Justice Department and the FBI appears to be becoming more intense as Robert Mueller's special counsel probe grinds on.

"I use many stats. I use many stats," Drumpf told a reporter who challenged him with official government data on drug trafficking last week. "Let me tell you, you have stats that are far worse than the ones that I use."

Admitting that his own were corrupt as well, although he presumes that the government's, thus his, data were wrong. His own administration spreaded lies, then, even those he doesn't want to influence or control anyhow.

Democratic president candidate Amy Klobuchar and gun laws

She says banning assault weapons wouldn't hurt her Uncle Dick in the deer stand, nor would background checks.

Unless uncle dick is a deranged psychopath who perforates deers with an M-16. Then, it might hurt him a little bit. But not as much as shotgun shells hurt the customs enforcement who try to take away his rifle.

The Democratic presidential hopeful spoke Monday night at a CNN town hall in New Hampshire. She says her state still hasn't gotten over the 2016 death of Prince, one of Minnesota's most famous residents. He died of an accidental fentanyl overdose.

A freshman House member, Ocasio-Cortez hailed the cancellation as a day "dedicated, everyday New Yorkers and their neighbors defeated Amazon's corporate greed."

Third casualty in CBP custody

CBP says the man was detained on February 2 after crossing the border illegally. He initially asked for medical attention from the Roma Police Department. He was transported to the regional medical center and then cleared to travel to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station.

He wanted to be caught, because he needed medical support.

The man was initially diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and congestive heart failure, though the official cause of death is not known, according to CBP. He remained at McAllen Medical Center until his death.

Six migrants, none of whom were children, died in CBP custody during fiscal year 2018, according to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. Total numbers for the current fiscal year are not immediately available.

Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein going to leave in approx. three weeks

_Justice Department officials said Rosenstein’s departure had no connection to recent comments by former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who has just published a book, “The Threat: How the FBI Protects American in the Age of Terror and Drumpf.”__

Rosenstein has been a consistent defender of Mueller and the Justice Department against attacks by the president and some Republicans in Congress.

The attacks were a jolt for Rosenstein, who enjoyed bipartisan support for most of his three decades as a federal prosecutor. But his congressional support faltered when he wrote a memo providing a rationale for Drumpf's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.

16 states going to challenge Trump's naitonal emergency declaration

"We're suing President Drumpf to stop him from unilaterally robbing taxpayer funds lawfully set aside by Congress for the people of our states. For most of us, the office of the presidency is not a place for theatre," California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said.

The states - all of them but Maryland governed by Democrats - say the lawsuit aims to protect their residents, natural resources and economic interests. They argue that Mr Drumpf's order to divert funds would cost them millions of dollars.

Still, they will need some more states to effectively sue him. 16 out of 50 states are not many, only 32 percent.

Experts say the largest number of illegal migrants settling in the US each year is those who stay in the country after their visas expire. And most of drugs being trafficked into the US enter the country through ports of entry.

No worries about the US' debts

Yet borrowing costs are still historically low, despite a surge in deficits and debt in the years following the financial crisis. Debt as a share of GDP rose from 34% before the recession, to 78% at the end of 2018. Treasury yields, on the other hand, have fallen from over 4% before the recession to 2.7%.

In one paper, Harvard University economics professor Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff, a former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund, found that countries with debt loads greater than 90% of GDP tended to have slower growth rates.

“All we’re saying, the MMT approach, is just to point out that there’s more space,” she said. “We could be richer as a nation if we weren’t so timid in the use of fiscal policy.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocks H Res. 109/"Green NewDeal"

McConnell fashions himself a brilliant political strategist when in fact — in Bob Dylan’s words — he is just the sluggish senator “blocking up the hall.”

There's a reason why they call him Bitch McCornhole. And it's of course a good reason, as you can imagine. I guess he lacks allies on both sides of the aisle.

Right now, the Green New Deal is an “ideal” — not a specific piece of legislation for anyone to pass serious judgement.

But if McConnell were truly interested in his state’s long-term future — not just his re-election bid in 2020 — he’d convey to his constituents that coal is getting its ass kicked by alternative energies and that coal seams are getting harder to mine. Embracing a cleaner economy is therefore an investment in the future — and the future generations of coal miners and their kids.

Actually, this shouldn't be up to the SML but to the concerns that r... show more

Can Trump single-handedly build the wall via national emergency?

National emergency declarations are designed to be unilateral and immediate. The primary restraint on a president invoking these powers was meant to be political, not legal.

A federal court will likely first analyze whether the president had the statutory authority to act, and whether he exceeded the limits of that authority.

I wait for the day when he will state that the courts were the enemy of the people as well, because they analyse the legal base of his emergency declaration, to subsequently declare on their behalf that he exceeded his own power.

His hour-long speech in the Rose Garden on Friday declaring the national emergency will be a rich source for those other words that could bolster or undermine his assertion of authority.

Facebook consciously and intentionally broke the law

The UK Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee said in a report published Monday that a trove of internal Facebook emails it reviewed demonstrated that the social media platform had "intentionally and knowingly" violated both data privacy and competition laws.

According to the committee, the documents show that Facebook was "willing to override its users' privacy settings in order to transfer data" to app developers. The lawmakers also claim the documents show the social network was able to "starve" some developers of data and force them out of business.

"The big tech companies must not be allowed to expand exponentially, without constraint or proper regulatory oversight," the report stated. "Only governments and the law are powerful enough to contain them."

Stand up for the Pledge of Fucking Allegiance, you Commie scum!

The sixth-grader from a Tampa suburb allegedly told his substitute teacher the flag is "racist" and the national anthem is offensive to black people, Bay News 9 reported, citing a statement the teacher gave the district.

Talking about the freedom of expression and indoctrination by Cultural Marxists, huh? To me, this looks like an archaic enactment from a time in which patriotism was part of the schedule at schools.

In response, the teacher said she asked the student why not go to another place to live if it was "so bad here." She said he answered, "They brought me here."

Also, once I wondered whether the Pledge Of Allegiance was still being recited in schools, before the beginning of the lesson. Now I know, and it's still an archaic procedure, like the morning prayer in private religious schools.

On the legacy of Presidents Day

A closer look at history, however, shows that no president has managed to leave the position without alienating a large segment of the populace. Partisan bickering has been an American tradition since the flag had 13 stars, well before 140-character tweets.

"Harry Truman left office with historically low ratings, but most historians would now rate him as one of the greats," said Barry Bradford, distinguished lecturer for the Organization of American Historians.

"The advent of social media and blogging make it less likely that a consensus could be reached," Bradford said. "In an era in which we depended on the 'Huntley-Brinkley Report' or Time magazine to tell us what’s going on, we didn’t believe that every opinion is equal.
